"Capturing North Carolina in Clay and Glaze"

Little Mountain Pottery is a country pottery established by Claude andElaine Graves in 1973 after a year spent studying and documenting folkpotters in Spain, North Africa, Mexico and the Canary Islands. A turn ofthe century country store building was refurbished by the Graves and itbecame the pottery's home.

Almost thirty years later the old buildinghouses a showroom and workshop with four kilns where Claude continues towork daily. The natural beauty of the land in the shadow of LittleMountain provides the inspiration for the work produced at the pottery. The goal at the pottery is to "capture North Carolina in clay and glaze"and the colors and seasons of our mountains can all be seen in the finishedwork.
